Has anyone gone skiing on glaciers in the summer? I’m planning to try this for the first time, but I have absolutely no idea what gear is best to rent on-site and what I absolutely need to bring myself. I’ve heard that the snow in July and August is completely different—it’s ice in the morning, but by the afternoon it’s already soft slush under your feet. Can you advise me on what kind of skis are best suited for these specific conditions, and does the rental set differ from a standard winter set?
What about clothing and protective gear? Should I rent a helmet and goggles, or does everyone just wear sunglasses and light hoodies in the summer? I don't want to end up with unnecessary items, but I also don't want to be cold in the morning or get sunburned.
I went last year and initially considered bringing all my gear across Europe, but then I calculated the shipping cost and decided it would be cheaper to rent. Of course, if we had rented on-site, it probably would have cost us a lot, but we booked in advance through the website https://getski.com/ , compared prices, and chose the right size. For summer, be sure to bring all-mountain skis with slightly wider waists because regular, stiff carving skis start to sink closer to the end of the run. Wear breathable, lightweight clothing with good ventilation, and buy sunscreen with the highest SPF possible. Which resort are you planning to visit?
