When One AirPod Not Working, it is one of the cases of poor connectivity, low battery or the presence of dirt in the speaker. To begin with, make sure that both AirPods are fully charged and are properly inserted into the case. Then reconnect them by forgetting and re-pairing via Apple AirPods settings. Sound can also be restored by cleaning the AirPod mesh. Sometimes, audio balance settings on your device may be shifted to one side. According to the instructions by DeviceFixes, the problem can be resolved by resetting the AirPods by pressing the case button until the light appears, which can frequently help to restore the AirPods to its regular functionality.

I think you should not get it repaired as it won't function as it did before. Its better to upgrade to a newer AirPods or buy generic earbuds. A lot of us don't know how good the generic ones can be until we try ourselves. I found myself a gem of an earbud while searching on the Kiwishack online store in NZ. You should also give it a try.
