I would recommend to add an option to the theme options for this one cause most themes are displaying borders around image + caption. It's not very urgent for me but it might help the theme to gain more customers though.

I mean to have a small (like 1 px) grey border around post images like attached.

Ah I understand now. That's a bit more tricky as you will need to eliminate the featured image from the img CSS on the page.
It would take a big longer than a normal small CSS edit, so I would recommend you hire a developer for this one
